Home Security Lighting

Home security lighting is an easy, affordable way to add extra protection to your home. When police officers are asked to give tips about home protection, adding a security light is usually at the top of their list.

Lighting your home for protection goes behind installing a few lights in the dark corners of your home. Here are some tips as to how home security lighting can make your home burglar-proof.

• If you have great outdoor security lighting, burglars most likely will not come inside. Place lighting all around your home. You can purchase a motion sensor so that the lights are not on all the time. The downside to a motion sensor is that often it can be triggered by small animals or even the wind. Some motions sensors that are a part of security system have sensitivity triggers that prevent them from going off unnecessarily.

• Like a local motel chain says, “Leave the light on.” You should leave a light on inside your home so that an intruder will think someone is there. Put the lights on a sensor so that you are not wasting valuable electricity. Leaving a porch light on is a sure sign you are not home and makes your home a prime target for a thief. If you want to have a light on to guide you as you put your keys in the door, consider a porch light with a motion sensor. This light will come on when you or an intruder approaches.

• If you have a garage or carport, make sure that your garage door opener has a sensor that turns a light on when you approach. An intruder can be waiting in the dark but if a light comes on, you can see him or her before you get out of the car.

If you want to add an extra element to outdoor security lights, have the light illuminate a security camera. You can purchase a fake camera for as little as $20. If intruders are not scared away by the light, they will run if they think they are on camera.

Solar powered security lights can be purchased at any home improvement store or online. By searching the Internet for these home security systems, you may find some special deals. Most home security lighting can be installed easily. In most cases, all you need are a few tools and ladder.
